Additive manufacturing analysis
Metal 3D printing fails in ways that static analysis does not predict: the part distorts because the scan order and the heat input wrote in residual stress.
Why AM is not static analysis
A printed part is built layer by layer, and each layer carries its own thermal history. The accumulated strain — the inherent strain — is what warps the part after it comes off the build plate. FEA Lab models that sequence: inherent strain in 3D with true element birth and death, scan strategy, and support structure.
From printability to as-built analysis
Screen a geometry for overhangs and support, estimate the residual stress field, predict distortion, then compare the as-built part against its nominal design intent. Martensite kinetics and homogenisation let a printed microstructure be compared against a cast or wrought equivalent.
